Valley Thunder gearing up for spring season
A series of pre-season skills sessions is being planned for new and returning athletes, coaches and officials as Valley Thunder Lacrosse prepares for the upcoming season.
Club coaches and volunteers welcome youth ages five to 18 to free drop-in sessions at the St. Mary’s Elementary School gym in Aylesford.
Participants need a helmet with cage, gloves, indoor shoes, water and active wear. Sticks will be available for those without.
COVID-19 policies are in place according to Lacrosse Nova Scotia (LNS), the province and the facility. An LNS activity waiver will be required (at the door) for non-Valley Thunder Lacrosse participants.
The 2022 box season looks to be shaping up, with lots of activity at the club, league and provincial level. Valley Thunder Lacrosse plays out of the Kingston and Berwick rinks. The season is expected to run mid-April to the end of June, with games potentially starting May 7. Valley Thunder athletes may look forward to
competing at the Breakers Cup during the May 20 weekend, defending their home turf at the club-hosted Apple Cup June 3 to 5, the largest box lacrosse tournament in Atlantic Canada; the Scotia Minor Lacrosse League (SMLL) championship weekend June 25 and 26, and Lacrosse Nova Scotia provincials at the end of June.
Season registration will open this month. Fees, age groups and SMLL anticipated teams are posted at valley thunder.goalline.ca.
Valley Thunder welcomes volunteers to join the team. Projects and committees include an online club clothing order co-ordinator, Apple Cup tournament organizers, club directors, coaches and officials (club pays for certification costs, and officials are scheduled and paid by the Nova Scotia Lacrosse Officials Association), website and social media, team managers, and equipment.
