Axemen add a pair

Hayden, Rosenberger join rebuilding Acadia squad

-

A guard from Truro and a forward from Ontario are the Acadia Axemen’s first announced additions for the 2022-23 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) basketball season.

Head coach Michael Leslie recently welcomed Truro’s Erik Hayden and Ottawa’s Adam Rosenberger to the program.

Hayden, a six-foot-three guard, helped the Cobequid Educational Centre Cougars win the Northumberland regional championship and host the provincials this season.

“He is a dynamic player who can score the ball in a variety of ways,” Leslie said. “He is a committed student-athlete and has a high basketball IQ.”

Hayden, who will study kinesiology, won the Cougars’ most outstanding player award in 2020 and the citizenship clean living award in 2021.

“Acadia is in a small community that reminds me of my hometown of Truro, and the program that I want to study there is a good fit for me,” he said. “Since the basketball team is in a rebuilding year, I felt like it would be a great opportunity to be involved in that process – to improve my skills while also playing a part in Acadia’s basketball program.”

Acadia went 1-15 in 202122 as Leslie took over the program in early September.

In a recent interview, Leslie said he already had 12 players committed for the upcoming season.

Rosenberger is a six-footsix forward from Woodroffe High School and is also a member of the Ottawa West Hornets under-19 AAA club.

“I chose Acadia because of its great sense of community and connection to the town of Wolfville,” he said. “In addition to that, the opportunity to be a part of Acadia’s highly regarded biology program and the school’s well-recognized basketball program, really

convinced me to choose Acadia.”

Rosenberger was named Woodroffe’s junior athlete of the year in 2019 and was a co-captain for the Tigers from 2020 to this past season. He was the team’s leading rebounder in 2019-20 and has led the Tigers in blocks since 2019.

“Adam is a versatile player with size and length who can play and score from multiple positions,” Leslie said. “Adam is a very good student who will be a welcome addition to our roster.”
