Valley looking for better results in February

The Valley Wildcats will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak when they host the Pictou County Weeks Crushers Friday, Feb. 3.

Game time is 7 p.m. at the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick.

Valley (16-19-3-1) completes the weekend by hosting the Fredericto­n Red Wings Saturday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. No. 1 goalie Justin Bourque will serve the final two games of his five-game suspension this weekend.

After starting January with three straight wins, Valley completed the month 4-5-0-0.

Valley has 13 games remaining in the regular season.

The Wildcats lost a pair of road games last week, 5-1 to

the Crushers on Jan. 26 and 4-0 to the Yarmouth Mariners on Jan. 28. Here’s a recap of those games.

CRUSHERS 5 WILDCATS 1

Ethan Landry from Jason Kwestel and Adam MacDonald gave the visitors a 1-0 lead against the Crushers midway through the first period.

Carter Murchison tied it four minutes later and captain Lucas Parson put the home side ahead for good with 22 seconds left in the period. Bryson Boudreau, Riley Seymour and former Wildcat Blake Deacon rounded out the scoring for the Crushers, who held 2-1 and 3-1 period leads.

Kenzie MacPhail made 23 saves for the win. Valley’s

Evan Martin allowed three goals on 21 shots in 33 minutes while Owen Westervelt stopped 11 of 13 shots he faced in relief.

MARINERS 4 WILDCATS 0

Keegan Warren had a 28-save shutout as the top-ranked Mariners blanked the Wildcats. Nathan Kelly and Michael Marquez each had a goal and an assist for the Mariners, who held 2-0 and 3-0 period leads. Kieran Burke and Jerome Nadeau also scored.

Martin made 38 stops for the visitors.
