Wildcats lose a pair

Valley hosting Sydney this weekend

The Kohltech Valley Wildcats were looking to snap a four-game losing streak when they went to New Glasgow on Feb. 7 to play the Weeks in Nova Scotia Under-18 Major Hockey League action.

The Wildcats lost 7-4 to Pictou County-based Weeks on Feb. 5 and 4-2 to Dartmouthb­ased Steele Subaru on Feb. 2. They lost 4-1 to Halifax on Jan. 30 and 3-2 in overtime to Cole Harbour on Jan. 29. The recent skid, which included games with four of the league’s top-five teams, dropped the fourth-place Wildcats to 1911-2.

WEEKS 7 WILDCATS 4

Lane Lochead, Logan Roop, Clint MacLaughli­n, Lane Sim and Ben Wallace each had a goal and two assists to pace the host Weeks attack.

Aiden Tucker and Owen Conrad rounded out the scoring for Weeks, which held 2-0 and 4-1 period leads.

William Hartnell scored twice for the visitors while Will McKinnon and Jacob Gerhardt each chipped in one. Aidan Bent and Connor Wilkin each had a pair of helpers while Landon Ryan, Peter MacKay and Drew Lutz chipped in singles.

Briac Cameron made 22 saves for the win while Chase Crowell stopped 31 shots in the loss.

Weeks went 2-for-3 on the power play while Valley was 1-for-4.

STEELE 4 WILDCATS 2

Jacob Rhyno had a hat trick to lead Steele to victory while Cole Chandler had a goal and an assist.

Gerhardt and Lutz replied for Valley. Bent had two helpers while Nolan Fowler and Hartnell each added one.

Joseph Hawco had 28 saves in the victory on home ice while Samuel Sinclair stopped 27 shots in the loss.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first while Steele took a 2-1 lead to the third.

The Wildcats host the Sydney Mitsubishi Rush Saturday,

Feb. 11, and Sunday, Feb. 12, at 5 and 2:30 p.m., respective­ly.
