Heather MacDonald is the new CEO for Brigadoon Village, Atlantic Canada's year-round camp for children living with health conditions.

MacDonald succeeds former Brigadoon CEO David Graham, who led the organization for more than 10 years.

MacDonald is a non-profit leader with extensive experience in youth-serving organizations, having served as the regional director for NPower Canada, the MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning, Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia and YMCA.

“My camp experiences, both as a camper and in leadership and programming, were formative to my development as a young person,” she said in a news release. “I am very excited to now have this opportunity to combine my personal and professional background to help lead Canada’s largest pediatric medical camp facility. It is a tremendous honour to join a village of talented and passionate staff, donors, board, and partners who bring to life the vision of our founder Dave McKeage. I can’t wait to get started.”

Her experience, coupled with a background in nonprofit leadership and recreation management, as well as a master of business administration, made MacDonald the standout candidate for the position, according to the selection committee.

“We’re thrilled that Heather has chosen to bring her business acumen, charitable sector expertise, and passion to Brigadoon Village,” Brigadoon’s board chairperson Scott Flemming said in the release. “I know she will inspire us all – partners, donors and staff – to keep working together to give extraordinary kids a chance to be ordinary.”

Located on the shores of Aylesford Lake, Brigadoon Village hosts 15 medically supported camps each summer for children and youth ages seven to 18.

Each program is designed to provide a therapeutic and fun camp experience to children living with illnesses and challenges such as celiac disease, heart conditions, Crohn's Disease, cancer, asthma, and parental mental illness.
