Clarke takes over Vipers
A coaching change has taken place with the Valley Vipers of the Eastern Canadian Basketball League (ECBL).
Eric Perry left the team recently for personal reasons, ECBL president Tim Kendrick said May 14.
“I was very happy and pleased with coach Eric’s work there and we were disappointed to lose him,” he said. “And we certainly left the door open for his return in an upcoming season.”
Hantsport’s Mark Clarke, who had served as an assistant
coach with the team, will lead the squad for the remainder of the season. He picked up back-to-back road wins May 13 and 14.
The Vipers beat the Bears 101-96 May 13 in Bathurst, N.B.
Frank Agyemang paced the Vipers with 22 points followed by Anthony Ottley with 21 and Tre Brewer chipped in 14.
Brian Williams had a gamehigh 24 points in the loss.
Valley stayed hot by dropping the Saint John Union 113-109 May 14 in the Port City.
Ottley scored 25 for the Vipers, who held a 55-52 lead at the half. Alex Muise contributed 21 points in the win while Brewer added 20.
Mike Rodriquez led all scorers with 39 points for the home side while former Acadia Axeman Kyle Arsenault had 17.
Valley improved to 4-7 while Saint John dropped to 8-7.
The win avenged a 116-110 loss to the Union May 10 at Horton High School.
Valley led for most of the game before the Union turned it on in the second half en route to victory.
Rodriquez led the comeback with seven of his 12 treys coming in the second half. He had a game-high 41 points.
Ottley led Valley with 23 points while Brewer scored 21 and JoBriel Powell added 18.
The Vipers were scheduled to host Bathurst May 17, but results were unavailable at press time. They host Charlottetown on May 19 and Bathurst on May 24. Both contests are at Horton High School and begin at 7 p.m.
