Tony Harris says the city’s health care services Must IMPROVE to MEET GROWING DEMANDS

-

Nanaimo: Tony Harris issued the following statement on Nanaimo’s need for increased health services in the region: “Since I launched my campaign in November, I’ve talked a lot about local health care and have especially been advocating for fully integrated cancer care at our hospital, so patients don’t have to travel over the Malahat for radiation treatment.

We also need expanded cardiac care capacity, so heart attack patients can be treated here instead of being transported by air or ground to Vancouver or Victoria. My passion for health care comes from years of involvement in our local hospital foundation, helping to raise funds for much-needed equipment and services. It’s great to see the province announce funding for a new Intensive Care Unit which is a result of the tireless advocacy effort of our community, but it shouldn’t take a by-election for Nanaimo to get the attention we deserve – we should matter all the time. There’s a lot more work to be done so Nanaimo residents have the health care they deserve. We need to think big as a community. As Nanaimo grows, we should be working towards a full tertiary hospital serving the whole Mid and North Island. This would not only improve the health and well-being of our residents but also bring increased economic benefits to the region as well. Improved health care services in our city is one of the top reasons I’m running and asking voters for a chance to serve – hire me and I’ll work my tail off. As voters in Nanaimo, you have a tremendous opportunity right here in front of you to send a new voice to Victoria for the better this by-election.

I want to assure everyone in Nanaimo that I will be an MLA for each and every one of you, and I’m asking for your support.”
