Western Canada’s largest pop-up escape room comes to Surrey

-

Surrey: Families and residents across Metro Vancouver are invited to tackle Mission: Possible, Western Canada’s largest family-friendly, popup escape room, hosted of by the City of Surrey. On February 9 and 10, Surrey Civic Plaza and Surrey City Hall will be transformed into a physical and educational adventure. The mission, should you choose to accept it, is to gather a team of friends or family to strategize and solve a series of puzzles and riddles that will pave the way to building a smarter city.

“Smart cities are reshaping what the future is going to look like and it’s important to include communities in the dialogue. We are proud to host events like Mission: Impossible to engage with residents about what a smart city is and hear their perspectives,” says Mayor Mccallum. This one-hour escape room experience is based around the premise of a collision at a high traffic intersection. Brain teasers will guide participants through physical and intellectual challenges, including a high-tech research lab and a zone on hazardous behaviours. Three levels of difficulty provide a challenge for any participant, from school-aged children to adults. As a bonus, the experience includes a ride on ELA, the first public Electric Autonomous Shuttle in Canada, on the plaza. This autonomous shuttle uses over 250 sensors to navigate through traffic safely and is already being deployed in many jurisdictions around the world.

Mission: Possible is an initiative of Surrey and Vancouver’s joint bid for the Smart Cities Challenge collaboration, a national digital technology competition from the Government of Canada. The two cities have been selected as one of the five finalists for the top $50 million prize and participation in this event will help in Surrey and Vancouver’s final proposal for the Challenge.
