A female suspect and her alleged getaway driver are still at large after the two made off with stolen merchandise from a store on Bloor Street and proceeded to crash the vehicle they were travelling in a few blocks south of the scene.

On May 19, at 10:33 a.m. the Toronto Police Service (TPS) received a call that a female suspect attended a store inside the Colonnade at 131 Bloor St. W., said she had a gun and stole three handbags before fleeing.

According to Caroline de Kloet, corporate communications officer with the TPS, the suspect then got into a vehicle waiting nearby with a male suspect behind the wheel.

Shortly after, at 10:47 a.m. the same day, TPS received a call for a collision at Wellesley Street East and Jarvis Street.

De Kloet said two vehicles were involved, and one of the drivers fled on foot, turning the investigation into what police call a “fail to remain.” De Kloet noted there were conflicting reports about the passenger in the car.

David Hopkinson, media relations officer with TPS, said police believe the two cases are connected.

“Investigators believe the van seen fleeing from the robbery is the same one involved in the collision,” he said. “There were injuries in the crash, but I am told they were minor.”

Hopkinson would not disclose the name of the store that was targeted in the robbery.

The two suspects are still at large and police have requested that anyone with information contact police immediately.
