Royal Roads University, School of Business From part-time programs to dual degrees, a roundup of offerings from eight business schools around the province

Royal Roads University offers an MBA in executive management with a variety of experienti­al learning opportunit­ies, combining in-class and online teaching to keep things flexible. The curriculum includes specializa­tions such as internatio­nal business–asia Pacific trade and investment, which sees students do an eight-day residency in Asia. For the internatio­nal business and innovation– Europe specializa­tion, RRU partners with France's Grenoble Ecole de Management. The university also offers a master of global management degree.

SFU, Beedie School of Business TUITION: $ 32,800-$ 56,100 (program-dependent) NEXT APPLICATIO­N DEADLINE: MAY 17

Beedie delivers a variety of MBA programs in full-time and part-time formats, with concentrat­ions such as management of technology and Indigenous business and leadership. As part of the learning experience, there's an experienti­al component built into the full-time MBA. In the applied internatio­nal project, for example, students learn about the Port of Vancouver's operations before travelling to Singapore to observe the port there. They then tackle a challenge faced by each port and present potential solutions.

Thompson Rivers University, School of Business and Economics TUITION: First year, $ 7,800; second year, $ 21,500 NEXT APPLICATIO­N DEADLINE: MAY 1

In one of the province's most flexible MBA programs, TRU offers full-time, part-time and study-from-home options, catering to the busy profession­al as well as the dedicated student. Besides an MBA, there's a master of environmen­tal economics and management. Outside the classroom, the university provides experienti­al learning opportunit­ies. In the Bridge to Business program, for instance, students network with business leaders.

Trinity Western University, School of Business

TUITION: $ 34,200-$ 36,225 (program-dependent)

With MBA specializa­tions such as management of the growing enterprise, and nonprofit and charitable organizati­ons, TWU gives students plenty of choice. Those in Metro Vancouver can earn their degree at its Langley and Richmond campuses. There's also an option to complete studies at TWU'S partner campus in China, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics. Lighter schedules and distance learning opportunit­ies make the 12-to-21-month program attractive to seasoned profession­als and new grads alike.

UBC Sauder School of Business TUITION: $ 48,450 (full-time MBA) NEXT APPLICATIO­N DEADLINE: MAY 7

Besides a full-time degree, UBC Sauder offers a profession­al MBA for working people that convenes

every few weekends. There are also academic partnershi­ps such as the MBA/JD program, offered through the Robert H. Lee Graduate School and the Peter A. Allard School of Law, which allows students to earn both degrees at once. To keep offerings relevant, UBC Sauder often adds innovative courses to its lineup. The school admits students on a rolling basis throughout the year. University of Northern British Columbia, School of Business

UNBC'S MBA program is designed for working profession­als. To accommodat­e busy schedules, classes take place one weekend per month. The university allows students to complete their degree at its Prince George campus or at Vancouver's Langara College, bringing both groups together twice a year to meet alumni and network with potential employers. Students who lack an undergradu­ate degree or don't meet other admission requiremen­ts are welcome to apply.

Uvic, Peter B. Gustavson School of Business TUITION: $ 24,500-$ 33,700 (program-dependent) NEXT APPLICATIO­N DEADLINE: MAY 31

From its corporate MBA to its business-focused master's degrees, the Gustavson School of Business covers various designatio­ns and fields of study. Small class sizes, group work and an internatio­nal applied project give students networking opportunit­ies and expose them to business environmen­ts in other cultures. Programs like the master of global business help them prepare for careers with multinatio­nal corporatio­ns.

Vancouver Island University, Faculty of Management TUITION: $ 33,400-$ 39,600 (program-dependent)

At VIU, students who have a business degree can jump straight into the 14-to16-month, full-time MBA; for those without, there's a twoto-three-month foundation program to help them get up to speed. Before doing their internship, enrollees can opt for a two-course specializa­tion. Through a partnershi­p with the U.K.'S University of Hertfordsh­ire, VIU also lets students earn an MBA and a master of science in internatio­nal management.
