Accessories to brighten your holiday season

With the festive circuit in full swing, even the minimalists among us want to shine a little brighter. Adding basic accessories like a textured clutch, strappy metallic sandals or a bejewelled watch is an easy and effortless way to create instant shine. Makeup can be a little trickier, but “products that provide radiance can be a game changer,” says Stephen Sardella, trainer for Shiseido Canada. Use our guide to create a holiday look that works for you.

Applied with your fingertips, a creamy blendable highlighter delivers transformative benefits. Sardella is a fan of the new Aura Dew collection, which suspends ultra-fine Japanese pearls in a pillowy texture. Focus on the cheekbones, bridge of the nose or eyelids.

An eye-catching holiday mani can set the mood. This year, Rita Remark, lead nail artist for

Essie Canada, will be sporting Million Mile Hues, a gold chrome from the winter collection. Flawless results for reflective polish come from a light-handed approach. “It’s all about product control,” says Remark. “You want to apply a shimmering shade with as few strokes as possible.”

“Finish the eyes with a light pearlized shimmer or sparkling texture on the centre of the upper lid,” says Sardella. “This technique captures light beautifully and commands attention.”

And the last word in sparkling makeup? Go for gloss. “A glistening finish on the lips continues to stay relevant for day or night,” says Sardella.
