Great Expectations
Forget about limitations, if you could have anything you wanted this might be it.
There are homes that are frankly fabulous and nearly defy description, much like the homeowners who envision them. Take an exceptional lot, add a generous pinch of imagination, plus the will and resources to put it all together, and you just might have the recipe for something extraordinary.
A successful entrepreneur, award-winning athlete, and avid car collector, Victor Petrovic is a man of matchless talents. Living an active life full life of adventure and accomplishments, with a strong attraction to quality comforts, it is undoubtedly his unflagging good humor and pure delight in living that propels everything into motion.
Victor attributes his success to mental tenacity and physical discipline, with an athletes respect for constant physical training and a belief that life’s rewards are gained through will and solid effort. Much like his home. It took laser sharp focus and determination to create a modern day castle on one of the prettiest patches of land around. “This is my home, which like myself is European in design,” muses Victor. “I always strive for the best in life; in business, in sports, and in my lifestyle and it’s all in the details.”
Nestled on the links of Bearspaw Country Club, Victor’s home is a reflection of his own unwavering personal standards. Originally built in the ‘80s, it overlooks the clubhouse and beyond within its manicured compound that incudes an ambitious landscape that captures all elevations and adjoining mountain views. A renovation of comprehensive measure that took five years to complete, its scale is staggering and took into consideration upgraded materials, performance, and of course a grand design that would satisfy his own pursuit of excellence.
Embracing a style that combines European flair with palatial features and amenities, a relatively open floor plan reveals well-crafted, artistic embellishments that adorn both ceilings and wall features. Desiring high ceilings and classic accessories, upon entry the interior speaks to spirited sophistication and timeless elegance.
Featuring an ancient Olympic Games plaster mural by Trevor Duval that resonated strongly with Victor, given his own status as a world class marathon runner (who is currently number one in Canada and number five in the world in his age group), ceilings were also decorated to enhance several Swarovski chandeliers. Desiring the energy that bright decors provide with the homes 111 windows and doors, Victor was also drawn to the richness of true Traditionalism and its potential for exquisite craftsmanship.
In addition to the new Spanish style exterior with its natural stone, clay roof tile, and wrought iron balustrades, the garage needed a sizable expansion to accommodate a weakness for Lamborghinis in particular. “Believe me, you need to be fit just to get in and out of them,” he grins. “At my age I still like speed a little more than I should.”
With everything upgraded including insulation, plumbing, and electrical, the high-grade mechanics behind the pool and hot tub in the basement further offers a complete ventilation system that keeps lingering odours from living spaces. “The pool is sealed off from the rest of the house and I have my own pool room that monitors temperature, water treatment, and levels automatically,” shares Victor.
Utilizing a Control 4 home integration system that affords in home and remote operation, the home theatre, audio/video, HVAC, blinds, lights, cameras/security, and pool function can be adjusted or monitored at the touch of a button.
Premium in-home comforts and activities include a full gym, home theatre with adjoining bar, three living rooms, music room, library, and a wine room. Hosting seven baths and four bedrooms, the home was designed for the level of comfort that an unapologetically luxurious lifestyle demands.
Hosting 10,000 square feet of gracious living on three levels, a top tower room also reveals daytime Rocky Mountain views and city lights at night and adjoins a private rooftop courtyard. Resplendent with Baroque-style features that include the stylized staircase, kitchen, doors, and several intricately carved fireplaces, embellished curved archways carry this theme from one room to the next. With staggered ceiling heights that define room transitions, richly detailed cornices and stunning ceiling details brings well-crafted character to the next level.
The two-acre, relatively flat lot offered a lot of options, as there were no bad views. Generous windows maximize natural light throughout the home with the peninsula style dining room enjoying view-scale windows from all three sides. “I designed my own home and was involved in every aspect of the build, including finishes and furniture. I even selected some of the craftsmen myself,” admits Victor.
Known as a wonderful community full of wildlife, rolling hills, and pampered acreages, Bearspaw affords its residents the opportunity to build what they desire. “We have people continually stopping by and taking pictures and sometimes they approach the gate. I understand their interest with this style of home and how it affects people,” he shrugs. “The sensors around the property let me know exactly how interested. It’s character and finishes enhance a look and feel that has evolved into something quite special.”
