outset,” says the lady of the house. “Being an out of town build, you need to be organized, yet we still needed to make some changes along the way. He was adaptive in that respect and made it all come together. Actually, it turned out even better than we expected.”

The landscape design hosts a modern, mountain-style influence that complements the timber frame style of the house and fits in beautifully with the existing landscape and waterfront setting. The home was built higher than their old cabin due to the rising water levels at Lake Wabamun, which required the need for engineered retaining walls that were built as high as six feet above grade along the property line to manage surface water drainage.

“We manufacture prefabricated timber frame structures and ship them around the world,” says Gagne. “Our focus is on high-end projects with most of our materials being locally sourced, premium Douglas fir.” Featuring structural beams throughout the home, they represent the perfect blend of form and function, creating a warm and rustic interior that further defines room transitions.

“We designed the house, but without the client and HR2 to put the package together, it may not have turned out to be the magnificent home that it is,” admits Gagne. “It’s ideal in many ways—it’s not too big and the location is second to none.”

Featuring a classic, rustic West Coast look, natural Black Pearl ledge stone veneer with striking white quartz veins exhibit an organic feel both inside and out and defines the fireplace that rises eighteen-feet in the great room with rear deck access. A custom metal plate hosts a mounted flat screen above a limestone hearth.
