What I Wear to Work: An administrative assistant’s colorful, mix-and-match style

What’s your day like? I assist one of the partners here, so I handle his meetings and calls and travel. I’m mostly in the office greeting clients and keeping him on schedule.

How do you like to dress for work? I’d describe my style as colorful. I have fun—a lot of bright colors and mixed prints.

Are you mixing prints here, or is this a dress? They’re separate pieces, actually. Normally I don’t like empire waists—i’m tall and feel like a kid in them—but this one’s perfect.

It pairs well with the skirt. I love this top, because it’s really happy. Plus, the geometric print gives it this interesting dimension.

Your shoes are great, too. They were cheap, but I get more compliments on them than I do on a lot of my more expensive pairs.

Is that flatware dangling from your ears? I got these from my sister when she went to Croatia a few years ago. She bought two pairs of silver earrings, one forks and one spoons. Both of us dislike being matchy-matchy, so she gave me one of each.

What’s the story behind your ring? I made that myself. I found this little telephone with the word “hello” on it at a thrift store a decade ago and hot-glued it to one of my old, junky rings.

Jewelry-making could be a side gig for you. I’m thinking of doing more of it. I’m doing this decluttering thing right now and finding all this stuff I bought years and years ago. It’s giving me ideas.
