Creators diagram where they work

Broken Pencil - - Table Contents - by Lee Lai …

While I’ve lived and worked in Montreal, I’ve had the ridiculous luck to work in a pottery studio on the Canal, run by one of my best friends, Wai-yant, who produces work under the name Créations Li. My desk is on a mezzanine that floats a little above the ceramics area, so from over the top of my desk, I can see them throwing, trimming and wedging clay, alongside a handful of other sweet potters. Our conversations often weave into and inform what I’m writing, and we’ve collaborated on a few things since I moved in. The friendship, and this space, has been one of the best things to happen to me.

Lee Lai is from Naarm (Melbourne), Australia, currently living in Tio’tia:ke (known as Montreal), Quebec. They make illustrations and comics that are part fiction, part memoir: cherry-picking and re-working experiences to comment, unpack and share stories about intimacy, rage, gender, families, food, and queer blustering.
