United Club Rolls Out in San Diego

United has opened a new United Club featuring its new design concept at San Diego Internatio­nal Airport. The club is the third to open with the new design. The 5,842-square-foot club is in Terminal 2 West on the mezzanine level. It offers views of the Point Loma seaside community, balcony lounge seating within an atrium, a buffet and bar. Members have access to compliment­ary snacks, beverages and WiFi.

United has invested $50 million into renovating several United Club locations this to the new Terminal 2 West, which as a new ticketing lobby, baggage claim area and improved shopping and dining options.

Automated Passport Control Comes to O’Hare

American Adds Self-tag Check-in at Richmond

American Airlines has rolled out self-tag check-in to Richmond Internatio­nal Airport. The new addition makes the service available at eight airports across the US: AustinBerg­strom, Orlando, Reagan National in DC, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare, Denver and Miami.

To use the self-tag service, travelers can print bag tags at any self-service kiosk, attach the bag tag to each checked bag, and drop off their tagged baggage at the designated self-tag drop-off location.

American Airlines also offers curbside check-in, where passengers can check their baggage outside the airport.

China Eastern Introduces Self-service Kiosks

China Eastern Airlines has plans to add 40 self-service check-in kiosks at airports in Shanghai, Hefei, Lanzhao, Taiyuan and Nanchang. The airline will also install a selfservic­e check-in kiosk at offsite locations such as Xian Xianyang Aviation Hotel.

The addition will bring the total of self-service check-in kiosks to 130 for China Eastern. The kiosks will use NCR Technology’s two-sided thermal paper, which could save up to 40 percent on paper costs and reduce staff workload. They will be able to read mobile bar codes, drivers’ licenses and passports.

TSA Expands Pre Check to 60 Additional Airports

The Transporta­tion Security Administra­tion (TSA) has announced that the TSA PreCheck expedited screening program is coming to 60 new airports by the end of the year. This addition to the existing 40 facilities will bring to 100 the number of airports with TSA PreCheck. The agency is also adding to the number of PreCheck lanes at the current airports in the coming weeks.
