Capella Washington, DC-Georgetown Washington, DC

-

BACKGROUND I truly enjoy a name that has a deeper meaning. In the heavens, Capella is a double star, and just like its celestial namesake, the brand has developed a symbiotic relationship between these luxurious hotels and their discerning guests.

The Capella Washington, DC, is the brand’s first property in the US. Like other Capella hotels, the Georgetown property is an ultra luxury hotel that delivers a sense of exclusivity and an elegant experience. The property itself is designed for privacy and built from the staff up on anticipating guests needs and delivering a memorable experience. In addition to the Georgetown location, Capella has other destinations in European cities and exclusive retreats from Asia to Mexico.

WHAT’S IT LIKE? Individually designed rooms are wrapped in comfort with tasteful aesthetics. The rooftop offers a lounge and indooroutdoor infinity pool, both with sprawling views of the nation’s capital. The fitness center is sufficient but I favor getting out to exercise along the canal and historic streets of Georgetown.

This is a great place to find peace while being ultra productive. One unique area is the guest’s Living Room. It’s warm yet sleek and stylish with a two-story wall of Italian onyx, massive fireplace, oversized furniture and abstract expressionist paintings by Edvins Strautmanis. Exclusive to guests, this area is something to savor whether you want to continue to work in a relaxing environment or just pass the time in soothing surroundings.

Being a guest at Capella is like being part of an extended family during the holidays. You know, the warm feeling and perpetual smiles that come from your favorite time of year.

WHERE IS IT Located alongside the quaint C&O Canal in prestigious Georgetown, the chic Capella is inside the beltway, across the Potomac from blossoming high-tech companies, the political power brokers of K street, the White House and Capitol Hill. The hotel is roughly 15 minutes from Reagan and 35 from Washington Dulles airports.

ROOM FACILITIES First, your memorable experience begins weeks prior with your personal concierge calling to arrange just about any need. When that happens, you can suspect you are in for something special. Check-in time is whenever you arrive, and you also check-out when you need to leave.

Each room is spacious with views of the canal or Georgetown, and includes Illy espresso machines, DIRECTTV and a separate glass enclosed floor to ceiling rain shower. Upgrading one class to a deluxe adds a beautiful white limestone bathtub, and another step up puts you in the Georgetown rooms with a corner view. The Capella, Executive and the Presidential suites (among the top 101 suites in the world) are worth the consideration.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS Helmed by Swedish Chef Jakob Esko, The Grill Room elevates the Georgetown gastronomy scene with creative offerings, specializing in hand-cut meats, fresh seafood and tableside preparations. Meanwhile The Rye Bar mixologists craft delicious one of a kind cocktails, including a signature Manhattan.

For an unforgettable memory, plan ahead and stay at the Capella while taking a Cocktail Class at The Rye Bar or spend your time stargazing from the rooftop with the Capella Constellation and Dinner Series.

MEETING FACILITIES High stakes private meetings are kept that way with the separate garage entrance for power executives. For a more relaxed atmosphere, Capella guests can create occasions on the rooftop with views spanning historical landmarks and river views. Your personal assistant can help shape your event to deliver that memorable meeting and Capella experience.

VERDICT The intimate Capella Georgetown provides a top-tier retreat for the discerning world traveler, positioning guests between the centers of culture, shopping, dining, and the headquarters of international policy and finance. BT
