Doha’s New Hamad Internatio­nal Opens for Business — Qatar’s new Hamad Internatio­nal Airport (HIA) opened May 1, 2014 to welcome arriving passengers for

Ten carriers commenced operations out of the new passenger terminal at HIA. end of May.

HIA and Airport City together make up the NDIA project and span 11 square miles, 60 percent on land reclaimed from the Arabian Gulf. The project includes 100 buildings of various uses. The Passenger Terminal has an area of 6.5 million square

Once fully open, the terminal will feature 16 lounges, 26 art installati­ons, more than 100 F&B and retail outlets, a transit hotel, a swimming pool, a luxury spa, squash courts and a four-story catering facility that is one of the largest in the world. The onsite public mosque can accommodat­e 500 worshipper­s at prayer time.

Passengers are able to take advantage of the many new services available at Hamad Internatio­nal Airport, from the free WiFi to play areas for children, multiple quiet areas to relax, and the amazing array of shopping and eating options. Qatar Duty Free at HIA offers more than 70 retail outlets offering a wide selection of designer labels, electronic­s, gourmet foods, along with more than 30 cafes and restaurant­s with a selection of global and local cuisine.
