Townhouses offer plenty of choices
Aswinging single’s pad? Maybe, maybe not, but definitely a cool pad. The show suite of Village Homes, by Mattamy Homes Ltd. Western Canada Division in its Windsong community in Airdrie, has the touches and finishes any man or woman would be proud to show off to visitors.
And according to Mattamy vice-president of land development Greg Mills, the freehold townhouses have been popular.
Only 18 of the 64 units in the first phase are left to sell — and all of that has been done without the benefit of a show suite, which officially opens today at 11 a.m.
“I think the appeal is a mix of unique floor plans and price,” he says from the show suite.
Prices range from $209,000 to $246,000 for the homes that measure between 1,100 and 1,400 square feet. Because they are freehold homes, there are no condo fees.
“We’ve tried to appeal to the younger, single buyers with the Village Homes,” adds Mills.
Tones of grey with black and white dominate the 1,315-squarefoot Windway model just down from the presentation and sales centre on Eighth Street. And capping it all off is a sensible, appealing floor plan reaching three levels high.
Built slab on grade so there is no basement, the ground level has a single garage next to the front door. An interior door from the garage opens to a flex area that, in this case, holds a home office area.
The mechanical room is also on this level.
A carpeted stairway leads up to the main living area of the home, but on the way you pass the laundry area with stacking washer and dryer.
At the landing, there is the stylish kitchen with a combination dining and living area.
The workable kitchen has been finished with ceramic tile flooring, glass tile backsplashes, stainless steel appliances and black granite that covers all the countertops and the eating peninsula that sits two and provides space for food preparation. Off the kitchen is powder room. The dining area is large enough to seat six to eight people and the adjacent living room is large enough for a chesterfield, a couple of chairs, tables and accessories.
A door from this room leads to a spacious front balcony.
The uppermost floor of the townhouse holds the bedroom area. In the Windway, Mattamy decided to show the one-bedroomwith-den option.
At the landing, double doors open to the den that has a sofa bed. In an alcove is a computer desk. Just outside the double doors is the home’s main bath.
At the front of the home is the master bedroom with walk-in closet and a table that can be used for various purposes — maybe as a makeup desk.
The ensuite has a stall shower, no tub, granite-topped vanity and ceramic tile floor. Standard specifications for the Village Homes include low E windows, vinyl siding, aluminum railings, laminate countertops, tile backsplashes, high-efficiency furnace, program- mable thermostat, and flooring of vinyl, carpet and hardwood.
“Village Home customers have one appointment with the design consultant which takes places approximately five to eight months before possession,” says Mills.
“In terms of decor customization, we offer a full range of options including tile, hardwood, paint, and countertops. These options are selected in our design centre with our design consultant.”
The kitchen has granite countertops, glass tile backsplashes and stainless steel appliances.
