“I jumped in at the initial launch in 2006 and was disappointed when it went into receivership,” says Hubick. “Then the new owners contacted me when they took over and asked me if I was still interested in ownership, so I jumped in again.”
Ownership of the fully furnished two-bedroom, ground-floor suite came at a bargain price — 25 per cent lower than what he had originally bought at.
One-eighth ownership is currently priced at $45,500, quarter-ownership starts at $82,400 and full ownership is priced from the low $300,000s.
All prices include the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).
Hubick had looked around at other possibilities, but found nothing to his liking.
“It’s the perfect location for me,” he says. “I have lots of friends out there and it’s just two-and a-half hours from Calgary.”
Kandert says Hubick is like many others who see the Columbia Valley as the perfect retreat area.
“People had been looking at the United States because of the great deals being offered there — but at the same time, there have been many others wanting to stay in Canada, close to home and not a plane ride away,” she says.
A national Re/Max recreation property report says the Lake Windermere area, which includes Invermere saw 42 properties change hands from January to March.
While it marked an increase from 23 for the same period last year, it was down substantially from about 70 sales more typical of the first three months of the year.
While serious about their buying intentions, people are taking their time making purchasing decisions because the level of inventory is up and prices have softened, says the report. Those actively pursuing properties have a game plan — sticking to pre-set budgets and being hard, but fair, in their negotiations.
