Developer’s vision earns award nod
An international company involved in all facets of real estate investment and development has won an award.
Grosvenor won the International Council of Shopping Centers VIVA award (Vision, Innovation, Value, Achievement) for a unique project in the United Kingdom.
The company’s Liverpool One project was honoured as best-of-the-best in the design and development category.
Grosvenor transformed 17 hectares of the centre of Liverpool that had remained undeveloped since it was bombed during the Second World War.
The project is now a dynamic commercial destination that has attracted more than 24.6 million visitors from around the world.
Grosvenor is noted in Calgary for such projects as its Drake development in the Beltline district.
Almost a city in itself, Liverpool One has 30 buildings that were designed by 26 different architects.
It is organized in five distinct districts that were built around the city’s existing streets.
Each district offers a different character and design.
Altogether, there are 175 retail shops totalling 1.4 million square feet, plus restaurants, apartments, hotels, offices, entertainment spaces, a new public transportation interchange, and a large public park over underground parking.
