FAMILY: Strengths

It’s because of these strengths that more Canadians are looking in the U.S. for second homes, as well as alternatives such as Quintess, he says.

Dr. Myron Stelmaschuk has been a Quintess Collection member since 2007. He has taken his family, which includes f ive children, to Maui, the Big Island of Hawaii, La Quinta, Calif., and Los Cabos, Mexico.

“For us, we get to see different places and are staying in an expensive home,” says the medical doctor. “And it’s cheaper than buying a home.”

A comparison shows the average cost per night for a four-bedroom, $4-million home in its program is $800 to $1, 450, while market rents range from $2,500 to $5,000, says the Quintess Collection.

The Stelmaschuks get 25 vacation days per year and spend about $25,000 for those holidays.

Quintess Collection members have access to more than 100 luxury homes priced from $2 million to $8 million, along with more than 40

Membership in The Quintess Collection starts at $36,000, along with annual dues of $7,950 for 10 nights.

It offers properties ranging from Miami, Fla., and Maui in Hawaii to the Caribbean islands of St. Martin and Turks and Caicos. It also offers homes in U.S. destinations such as Aspen, Jackson Hole, Tahoe and New York.

Other destinations include Florence, London and Paris, as well as experiences in Kenya, South Africa, Thailand, the Galapagos Islands and the Mediterranean Sea through Quintess Beyond — a new membership plan that provides once-in-a-lifetime vacations.

Members pay a one-time refundable deposit and initiation fee, with annual dues based on the specif ic customized membership plan desired.

With concerns surrounding the international economy and its impact on real estate, there has been an increase in interest on destination club membership instead of buying, says Miller.

“The Quintess Collection has doubled membership sales revenue in the f irst six months of 2011 compared to the same period in 2010, and expects to be up by 250 per cent for the year,” he says. “We are optimistic and looking forward to continued strong growth in 2012.”
