famous style and in return showed us, the viewing public, how to use these looks in our own homes.

One of my favourites is the original Wall Street movie with Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen.

This was about the opulence of the ’80s, and the quick money that these guys on Wall Street were raking in. Their greed and yearning for the high life was depicted in the character of Gordon Gekko and his office. It was opulent with textures of metal, leather and rich, deep colours, but it was the paint finishes that had me on the edge of my seat. Surfaces were painted to emulate the luxury of velvet, the coldness of steel and the warmth of leather. I was hooked!

I remember Something’s ages, cancelled meetings, computer crashes, broken equipment are all par for the course.

This week: Suddenly, it seems like you’re gung-ho to get better organized. Basically, you want your life to run more smoothly. This is why you will do whatever you can to make things run more efficiently at home and at work. By all means act on your impulse to buy shelving, file folders, labels, batteries, flashlights, cleaning equipment, paint so that you can use these items to make your life smooth.

Gemini (May 21 — June 20) Today: What can you do to improve where you live as well as your relationships with family members? This is the perfect question for you to consider today. If you have any ideas, be specific.

Sunday: Parents should be extra vigilant today because this is an accidentprone day for your kids. Romantic partners should also be extra patient with each other because it’s a rocky day for romance.

This week: Lucky you! You are entering what could be the most fun-filled six weeks of the year for your sign. Basically, your focus is simple: You want to have fun. It’s not selfish, it simply means you want to do your own thing and have a good time. Naturally, you’ll enjoy sports events, the theatre, the arts, movies, parties, and all kinds of amusements. Cancer (June 21 — July 22)

Today: Every New Moon is a chance to make resolutions. Your New Moon opportunities are all about communications. Strive to be as clear as you can when talking to others.

Sunday: Be patient with family members because domestic spats can easily break out, which benefit no one. After all, anger has no purpose other than to make everyone miserable.

This week: You’ll enjoy the next six weeks because in many ways you’re a nester. You need to have a place where you can have long baths and curl up in a fetal position and have a warm feeling in your Gotta Give with the fabulous Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton.

In the theatre you could hear a collective intake of breath from the audience at the sight of the home belonging to the woman played by Diane Keaton. I listened to the murmur of enthusiastic whispers as friends discussed the subtle shades of pastels with fresh, white mouldings, the oversized oat coloured sofas and bookcases panelled in glossy white wood. How many of us, I wonder, rented the movie just to help choose a colour palette for our own walls?

Movies and TV shows can offer us a vision of trends that are about to reappear. Mad Men is the perfect example. Furnishings, patterns, colours and textures from the early six- tummy. Therefore, it will please you now to enjoy a stretch of time where your focus is primarily on home, family and personal matters. Leo (July 23 — Aug. 22) Today: Today is the only New Moon all year that offers you a chance to make resolutions about how to better handle your finances. What can you do to cut costs, boost earnings and have a clearer picture of what is happening?

Sunday: Do be careful. Allow extra time for everything. Today is an accidentprone day for you but it doesn’t have to be if you are calm, not harassed, and you give yourself lots of leeway to do whatever you want to achieve.

This week: The tempo of your days will accelerate in the next six weeks due to a jam-packed schedule of short trips and increased reading and writing. On top of this, you’ll be running around doing errands and talking to everyone. Just accept this and go with the flow. This is not the time to stay at home. Instead, get out and hustle thy buns. Virgo (Aug. 23 — Sept. 22)

Today: Today the only New Moon in your sign all year is taking place, which means it’s your chance to take a look in the mirror and assess your image. What kind of impression do you create on your world?

Sunday: Keep an eye on your money and your possessions today because it’s a crapshoot. You might find money; you might lose money. You might break something or lose a possession because you misplace it or it is stolen.

This week: Ka-ching! For various reasons, according to the details of your own life, you’re going to be much more focused on earnings and cash flow in the next six weeks. Some of you will push for a raise while other will be looking for a new job. You might also be keenly focused on budgets and figuring out how to best juggle your money to keep the wolf away from the door. Libra (Sept. 23 — Oct. 22)

Today: Everybody believes in something even ties are once again becoming a staple in our homes, albeit with a slight twist. Coloured appliances are now back in vogue creating a sigh of relief from the decades of stainless steel and white.

I just bought a lemon yellow toaster, a joyful upgrade to my mom’s Harvest Yellow, and I have a wild “noodle” rug in pistachio green, again a modern version of the green shag.

This year we spent my birthday at an ancient castle in Tuscany, which is the hotel where the romantic movie Letters to Juliet was filmed starring Amanda Seyfried and Vanessa Redgrave. Not only was I treated by my beloved husband to this wonderful evening but we also stayed in the actual room where they filmed many of the scenes. if it is the belief that they don’t believe. What are your beliefs? What ideas do you embrace when the power goes out?

Sunday: You’re on an emotional roller-coaster today. Yes, you feel excited and stimulated by something. New people in your life are dazzling and different. Nevertheless, stormy relationships are possible. Easy does it.

This week: This week the Sun enters your sign for the first time in a year, which means you’ll be pumped with energy for the next four weeks. When the Sun is in your sign, you easily attract others to you, plus favourable circumstances come your way. Naturally, you should make the most of this.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 — Nov. 21) Today: Today’s New Moon is your chance to make resolutions about friendships. The big thing is that your friends influence you. No question. They influence your mindset and your mind is what makes your decisions, guides your life and shapes your future.

Sunday: You feel extremely restless today. In part, this is because you want a little adventure. You want something to happen that’s fun and different. And you might get your wish!

This week: Your personal year is ending. That makes this next month the perfect time to look over your shoulder and ask yourself how well you’re doing at the art of living. Think about the last year. How do you want your new year to be different? If you write down some specific goals, this will increase the likelihood you’ll achieve these goals. It’s your choice.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 — Dec. 21) Today: This could be perhaps the best day of the year for you to give serious thought to your life direction in general. Are you headed where you want to go? Do you have a plan?

Sunday: Be patient with others, especially in group situations, because you might blurt something out and later regret it. The upside of today is that it’s not

Borgo Scopeto, (www. borgoscopetore, which should be added to everyone’s bucket list, was built more than 600 years ago. The latest restoration to this now stunning hotel incorporates today’s modern comforts, and paint techniques that have been used in Tuscany for centuries. The use of colour blocking and what is known as “lining” in the hallways and bedrooms of this hotel encompass both the practical and esthetic sense integral to good design.

Creating blocks of colour on a wall brings large rooms to scale, an ideal solution for anyone who has cathedral ceilings in their home. Bands and lines of colour usually replace baseboards in these old villas — a fabulous remedy if you have three-inch baseboards boring! The downside is you feel out of control.

This week: You’re suddenly popular! The next six weeks are all about talking to friends, joining clubs and groups, schmoozing with acquaintances plus making valuable new contacts. In the bigger picture, you’re aware of your hopes and dreams and thinking a lot about how close you are to achieving them. With Jupiter directly opposite your sign this is a time of culmination for you.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 — Jan. 19) Today: Ask yourself what education or training would improve how you do your job and enhance your quality of life. Or maybe you can travel somewhere that will please you and enrich your experience of the world?

Sunday: You might feel rebellious dealing with authority figures today. Don’t quit your day job and don’t say anything you will later regret. This is just a passing (and thrilling) moment of impulsive rebellion.

This week: During the next six weeks, the Sun will slowly cross the top of your chart acting like a spotlight on you. This is why others, especially parents, teachers and VIPs, notice you more. Fortunately, this lighting is flattering so everyone thinks you’re hot. Demand the advantage! Ask for a promotion or raise. Bosses will ask you to take on increased responsibilities.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 — Feb. 18) Today: This is a practical New Moon for you. What can you do to reduce your debt and secure loose ends by having a will drawn up or wrapping up disputes about shared property or insurance matters?

Sunday: Travel plans will be changed today. Therefore, allow extra time for everything. You might learn something unusual from someone who is really “different.” Discussions about religion, philosophy and politics won’t be boring!

This week: You’ve got the wanderlust and travel totally appeals to you in the next six weeks. Bottom line: You want to do something different! You want to ex- that you would like to make more impressive. A roll of low-tack masking tape, a base colour on your walls and an alternate colour will create a clean, modern and interesting element for the plainest room.

The next time you watch a movie, whether it’s a historic European romance or an America drama, dwell on the back drop of the homes as well as the action on the screen. You will find so much to be inspired by for your own home. pand your horizons. You’re hungry for fresh ideas, new knowledge and an opportunity to meet fascinating people. Study or sign up for a course.

Pisces (Feb. 19 — March 20) Today: The only New Moon all year that is opposite your sign is giving you the chance to think about how you can improve your closest relationships.

Sunday: Keep an eye on your bank account and on anything related to debt, taxes and shared property. Something unpredictable might happen, especially if you are responsible for the possessions of others.

This week: You’re sensitive and emotional. But you do react emotionally to events around you and, in the next six weeks, many of you will be much more intense than usual. Your world will feel very black and white/right or wrong/on or off. No middle ground. You might do some soul-searching, and many of you will meet someone who triggers this psychological self-inquiry.

British royal Prince Harry (1984) shares your birthday today. You are often shy when young. However, when older, this disappears and you become quite expansive! You enjoy life fully and you like having the wealth to be able to do so. In the year ahead, friendships and partnerships will be a strong focus for you.

Actress Madeline Zima (1985) shares your birthday today. Many of you master a particular technique that you use in life. You have enormous spirit that gives you the courage to follow your dreams. You’re also very brave and you can be blunt. You are born with a zest for life! You’re bighearted and always honest. In the year ahead, an important choice will arise.

Stunning interiors spotted in movies, such as this bedroom suite at Borgo Scopeto, incorporate modern comforts and paint techniques that have been used in Tuscany for centuries.
