Duplex has room to spare
Mattamy home offers double-car garage and more
A home’s flow is all in its organization, and the Manchester B floor plan executes this point tidily.
The Manchester B is a duplex model by Mattamy Homes in the community of Lakepointe in Chestermere. The spacious, 2,065-squarefoot duplex offers three bedrooms and a two-car, frontattached garage.
From the front foyer, a short hallway passes a powder room to the left, then jogs slightly to the right, adding some privacy to the sightline from the front door.
Warm-hued, wide-board wood flooring sets the tone for the main floor.
The home expands into an open concept kitchen, dining and great room.
The kitchen is set along the shared wall of the duplex to the left, with the dining area next to it — making the most of the natural light from the sliding glass doors onto the back deck.
The kitchen features darkstained, five-panel wood cabinets reaching to the ceiling. Granite countertops with light brown flecks join stainless-steel appliances.
A white tile backsplash is balanced by smaller brown tile accents. Stylish pendant lighting hangs above the island, which has a flush extended eating bar with space for four.
A nice touch in the kitchen is the series of cabinets with frosted glass fronts that are lit from within.
The great room is a friendly, spacious area, with a gas fireplace flanked by windows taking centre stage on the back wall. A dark-stained wood mantle wraps the stone surround to frame it.
Next to the stairs to the upper level, which faces the kitchen, is the entrance to the mud room and the stairs to the basement.
This area has a handy built-in for dropping off bags and coats. It also contains a great built-in desk for organizing household affairs.
Because it’s up a couple of steps and out of drafts from both the side door and entrance to the garage, it’s a cosy spot. It even includes a dog bed for a furry family companion.
Up the stairs from the kitchen is a loft on the right, which offers a family gathering space for TV or toys.
Railings line the sides of the stairwell, protecting the sightlines in the loft and making the area seem much larger than it actually is.
A left U-turn at the top of the stairs leads to the bedrooms.
The master bedroom is en- tered from double doors at the corner of the room. Two tall windows look out over the backyard, with space between to set a chest of drawers.
The entrance to the master ensuite features a walk-in closet to the right, with a double vanity to the left. The vanity is rimmed with a beautiful collection of long, thin horizontal tile alternating cross-sectioned pebbles with glass. A corner jetted soaker tub with windows above sets the tone for the spa oasis. A large shower has glass walls, smooth pebbled floor and large tile walls, carried up from the floor.
Next to the master bedroom is a large laundry room with counter space, cabinets and a sink.
Down a short hall from the laundry room is the main bathroom to the right, and the two secondary bedrooms at the front of the home.
