There are proper foyers — and then there are notable foyers.

There is much to recommend a home with proper foyers. There’s enough space to come in and close the door and the flooring won’t suffer if footwear tracks in dirt or snow.

There’s somewhere tidy to stow outdoor gear — and cold breezes have a space to mix with warm air before curling around the ankles of people standing nearby.

Then, there are notable foyers. Creations by Shane Homes shows that a 1,508-square-foot duplex has enough space for just that.

The Galea is one of four new duplex show homes now open in the Calgary builder’s StoneHedge development in the new southeast community of Legacy.

The front door is framed with wide glass inserts and features a stylized, stainedglass transom window above. The door opens from the veranda into the wide foyer, which has closets to both sides of it.

An arch helps to visually separate the space. When stepping into the great room, the front entrance is further accentuated by a series of three built-in art shelves lit with pot lights to each side.

The attention to foyers continues at the back of the home, with a proper mud room to keep the cold breezes to a minimum while providing convenient storage for gear.

The home is spacious on the main floor, with a large great room. It has a built-in TV niche on one wall, which hides cables and allows the screen to lie flush with the wall, adding protection to the unit.

There is space for an IT centre or an extra lounge chair to one end of the great room. Across from this space is a large dining nook for gathering together the family for meals.

The kitchen comes with three-quarter-inch-thick, light- Location of the show home. coloured granite countertops with a double under-mounted sink.

There’s a view of the backyard though windows set above the sink.

The white, subway tile backsplash is clean and bright and helps set off the dark brown, five-panel cabinets. The island is a friendly place, with good space for working while still having room for a few people to sit at the extended flush ledge and visit.

To the left of the front foyer is short hall facing the stairs to the upper and lower levels, with a half-bathroom on the main floor.

The stairs to the second floor are bright, with a large window that feels even larger with its deep-set window box. A closet for stacked laundry appliances is at the top of the stairs.

The secondary bedrooms are a good size, with one at the front of the home and one in the middle. The main bathroom is on this hall.

At the back of the home is the master bedroom. It has a walkin closet, and a master ensuite with a granite-topped vanity.
