Side-by-Side home lets in the sunshine
Exposure to sunshine is known to promote a positive state of mind.
For househunters who smile when they’re in warm, bright places, there’s a new Side-by-Side home by Brookfield Homes in Auburn Bay.
The Linden is a 1,404-square-foot two-storey plan with three bedrooms and two-anda-half bathrooms. From a few steps through the front door, there’s a clear focus on bright space.
Naturally, an open-concept plan helps sunshine travel a bit further than it would in a more enclosed space.
With big windows on both sides of the main floor, and limited barriers between the great room and the dining area and kitchen, this design lets light travel. But it’s the extra source of sunshine that makes all the difference in this home.
A side entrance from the kitchen brings a second wave of light to the space.
Another touch that warms up the space is the rustic interior decorating by noted Calgary designed Rochelle Cote. She uses warm greys and taupe tones to give set a cosy, family-friendly tone.

The main-floor layout starts with an expansive great room, with more than enough space for large furniture and shelves. The back end of the floor sees a half bathroom on one side and the entrance to the stairwell to the second floor on the other.
Just past the staircase is a small desk for dropping off mail or for a child to work on homework while the parents prepare dinner.
The kitchen is L-shaped and boasts a stylish tile backsplash, along with stainlesssteel appliances and a centre island with an eating bar. There’s also a large corner pantry.
The sink in the kitchen is next to a window that faces the backyard. Adjacent to the kitchen is a dining area, which is next to a tall rearfacing window.
The dining area is slightly offset from the kitchen and its main wall works well as an accent through either a paint colour or a nice art piece.
The second floor places the master bedroom on one end and the two secondary bedrooms on the other. The parents’ and kids’ rooms are separated by a full bathroom and stairs to the main level.
The master bedroom is large, with one wall offering access to a walk-in closet followed by a long, rectangleshaped ensuite. The ensuite in the show home has a soaker tub and separate glassencased shower.
