Some spirited, civilized gift ideas

“Wine is the most civilized thing in the world.” — Ernest Hemingway

I know some people consider the gift of wine or spirits an easy out, but, hey, we all need easy outs at this time of year and a nice bottle of something good rarely goes unappreciated. For the wine lover, there are myriad wine gadgets out there, but many of them are the viniferous equivalent to the Flowbee. If you are of a certain age you may recall this device; it attaches to your vacuum and you use it to cut your own hair (and you can still buy them!). Call me old-school, but a good corkscrew and a decanter are the only accessories you really need for wine — and maybe some decent glassware — and these probably won’t end up in the re-gifting closet.

Here are a few options for the imbibers in your life.
