Buyers get helping hand
Apartments by an awardwinning builder in northwest Calgary are now available through a program that aims to help mid-level income earners afford a home.
A program through Attainable Homes Calgary Corp. offers entry-level housing for middle-income homebuyers who qualify for a mortgage and have a down payment of $2,000.
The program now includes 28 apartments at Evanston Square by Streetside Development Corp., a complex in the community of Evanston.
Streetside Development was named Multi-Family Builder of the Year at last year’s Calgary Region SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards.
“We expect the units at Evanston Square to sell very quickly, so we are encouraging people to act fast so they don’t miss out,” says Attainable Homes Calgary Corp. president and CEO David Watson.
Apartments range from 620 to 953 square feet and come in one- and two-bedroom orientations. The rest of Evanston Square has sold out.
“We identified a common goal in a desire to increase the opportunity of home ownership,” says Lisa Feist, Streetside’s vice-president of multi-family development for southern Alberta.
“The availability of these homes will open the opportunity for more home ownership opportunities and create great neighbours.”
An open house for the Evanston Square apartments will run from noon to 2 p.m. today at 115, 2300 Evanston Sq. N.W.
Watson says the addition of apartments at Evanston Square has come at the right time because rent hikes in the city have turned people on to home ownership.
“We saw significant increases in website registrations, phone calls, show suite viewings and sales in the second half of 2013 and we expect the high level of interest to continue throughout 2014,” says Watson.
Attainable Homes Calgary Corp. added 192 homes to its inventory over the past year, including units in three northeast Calgary communities.
The program picked up townhomes at Arrive at Redstone by Partners Development Group and apartments at SkyWest by Truman Homes in SkyView Ranch.
Townhomes by Mattamy Homes in Cityscape were also acquired late last year.
The first development built on land owned by Attainable Homes Calgary, Westbury Park by Truman Homes, also broke ground in 2013.
