Pyrrha crafts Thrones jewelry
Wade Papin and Danielle Wilmore, the Vancouver-based designers behind Pyrrha, have been creating personal talismans bearing heraldry, botanical, medieval and ancient motifs for nearly 20 years.
Their jewelry company is also named for the surviving queen in Greek flood mythology, so it’s hardly a surprise that they’re both fans of the Game of Thrones series — although Papin admits that Wilmore is especially ardent. “So there you go — so much for the gender stereotypes!”
The Pyrrha for Games of Thrones collaboration, in stores this week, has been in the works since a member of HBO’s licensing team visited their booth at a New York trade show two years ago.
The collaboration is such a natural fit that actor Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, happens to be wearing a Pyrrha talisman in the current GQ. “But it’s not a Game of Thrones piece, it’s just from our regular line!” Papin laughs.
Like the core Pyrrha line, all the vintage-look talismans, rings and cuffs — from the stag of Baratheon, Tyrell’s jagged rose to the kraken of Greyjoy and Targaryen’s swirling three-headed dragon — are handcrafted in their Vancouver studio.
