Ven adds up to great home
For an audit manager seeking a move to the inner-city, the benefits of buying at Ven quickly added up.
Colin Mitchell, 31, decided he was ready to leave renting behind and find a place of his own. And from the get-go, life in the established community of Kensington stood out.
“I’ve always thought of Kensington as a fantastic area that would be great to live in,” says Mitchell, calling it, “high energy.”
Kensington is a historic neighbourhood in northwest Calgary noted for its walkable amenities and proximity to transit.
“I love the green space. It’s a very vibrant type of neighbourhood that certainly appeals to me as a young professional.”
When weighing his options, Mitchell had a checklist of wants for his new home.
He kept his eye out for a development that was clean, bright and modern, featuring an open-layout and high ceilings.
He found this at Ven. Mitchell discovered the project after a tip from a family friend in the real estate business, and visited its sales centre at 306 10th St. N.W.
Ven is a 114-unit complex by award-winning developer Bucci Developments. The remaining apartments start in the $320,000s.
“It checked all my boxes,” says Mitchell. He bought a 780-square-foot plan plus a balcony. It has one bedroom, a den and two bathrooms.
“It’s enough space on its own, but feels like even more to me based on the great use of space that they’ve done with that,” Mitchell adds. “It’s a place I expect will be easy for me to maintain and keep clean.”
Bucci’s emphasizes energy efficiency in each of its developments and Ven is no exception. The complex is constructed to a Built Green Canada silver standard. This is a national program that measures a development’s energy efficiency based on its materials and the methods used in its construction.
“I’m a big fan of their green focus,” says Mitchell. Ven achieves this through use of energy-efficient appliances, double-glazed energy-efficient windows, master bedrooms pre-wired for ceiling fans, low-flow plumbing fixtures and dual flush toilets that use about 20 per cent less water than average toilets.
There’s also an eight-by-20foot wall featuring lush plants in the complex’s lobby.
“When you come in on a cold winter’s day, you’re greeted by this really nice ozone smell of organic growth right in your lobby while you get your mail,” says company vice-president of development Mike Bucci.
Colin Mitchell, 31, knew he wanted to find a home in the “high energy” community of Kensington, and quickly discovered the Ven development suited his needs.
Bucci Developments focuses on its kitchens, like this one in an apartment in its Ven building in northwest Calgary’s Kensington.
