Armory joins ranks of Currie Barracks’ exciting rebirth
Cove Properties offers condos at heritage site
Cove Properties launches sales today for The Armory, a new 58unit condominium development in Currie Barracks.
The name of the four-storey building honours the history of the community, the redevelopment of the former CFB Calgary base by Canada Lands Co.
“We wanted to respect the military heritage of the Currie Barracks development,” says Doug Mazurek, president of Cove Properties Ltd. The Armory is set at a choice location of the development, on Burma Star Road S.W.
“We back onto the Currie Barracks’ historic gardens which is beautiful. It’s a heritage site, so it will never change, we’ll always back onto those gardens,” says Mazurek.
Cove has plans for an attractive building with spacious units.
“With the architectural guidelines, everyone is held to a really high standard. It really is giving me the ability to do something special,” Mazurek says.
The building’s plans are similar to those of the current Cove Properties development, Kincora Summit, in the city’s northwest, but with a different feel.
“It’s a very contemporary looking building, less Rocky Mountain craftsman than Kincora Summit,” Mazurek says of The Armory. “I didn’t want it too ultra-mod-looking because (The Armory) is not downtown. We have that contemporary flat roof, and big overhang off the front end of it.”
The Armory features a bricked base, with brick panels running up to the second and third floors, along with acrylic stucco and real fir timber accents. Oversized metal-clad windows tinted a custom green will finish the exterior appearance.
Homes range in size from one bedrooms at 645-square feet to three-bedroom penthouses with 1,700-square feet. The two-bedroom units, ranging in size from about 1,000-to-1,200 square feet, come with dens or flex rooms. Homes start in the low $270,000s. The units all have nine-foot ceilings. On the fourth floor, the homes will have 10-and12-foot ceilings. All units will have air-conditioning, quartzite countertops and stainless steel appliances.
There will be a variety of flooring options available, including tile, hardwood and carpet. Each unit will come with a heated underground parking space with a storage locker.
