When Rob Leach and Candace Chollak decided they were ready to buy their first place together, the couple had several must-haves.

“There was definitely a list,” says Leach. Among the many things to consider, Leach and Chollak needed the right location and a garage that could fit both of their vehicles.

The couple found their match at a stylish townhome complex in northwest Calgary. Vantage is a development by award-winning builder Calbridge Homes.

The project is one of three townhome projects by the builder. Others are The Trading Post and The Ravines of Sunset Ridge, both in Cochrane.

“We (wanted) to be close to where our families both live right now,” Leach says. “So southeast Calgary was out of the question.”

Vantage is in EvansRidge, a community masterplanned by veteran developer Dream Development.

EvansRidge is also known for its close to amenities, such as shops, services and restaurants. It’s a short drive to Creekside Shopping Centre and Symons Valley Ranch Farmers’ Market.

“We liked the family-

ented nature of the community and the open green spaces,” adds Leach.

Within the community, the project has an ideal perch.

“You’re right on the ridge there, which is nice,” Leach says. “We ended up with an end unit right on the green space along the side of the development so it works out really nicely.”

Leach has an office in downtown Calgary and says the commute to work is easy.

“It’s about five minutes longer than it was when I lived in Edgemont, so not too bad.”

Vantage is planned to include 96 homes on Evans Ridge Drive.

“The lines of the buildings are crisp and modern, and a departure from conventional townhouse lines,” says Ralph Smith, Calbridge director of sales for north communities. “The specifications are excellent, competitive in all respects, and offering all the features that you could be looking for in townhome living. “Throw in on-the-doorstep bus connections, proximity to upcoming schools, nearby shopping and amenities, and a desirable upscale neighbourhood, and you have the complete package.”

The units have a private front patio and a rear covered deck, along with a twocar, front-attached garages.

“We looked at several different town houses and we found that you’re either getting one of those really long double garages where you’re parking one in front of the other or just a singlecar garage. We liked the fact you got a (standard) double,” Leach says. There are two models at Vantage, both displayed at the sales centre as show homes. Leach and Chollak bought the Gemini in a double-master bedroom orientation. It’s also offered with three bedrooms.

“The Gemini model caught our eye because it was larger, and offered more space,” says Leach. “It also offered more windows allowing for more natural light into the space.”

The couple felt the double-master bedroom plan suited their lifestyle better than the three-bedroom, Leach says.

“We also felt that down the road, it may help with resale,” he adds.

The Gemini is 1,462-square-feet and the Orion is 1,430-square-feet. Both come with two and a half bathrooms.

In the Orion, the kitchen is central on the main floor and has a galley design. The kitchen in the Gemini is along the rear wall.

Both come with stainless steel appliances.

The laundry room is on the second floor and comes with a high-efficiency front-load washer and dryer. Units at Vantage have an optional den, which can be transformed into a fitness or yoga studio.

“I think the selections were the best,” says Leach. “Just the basics were much better than what we looked at already.

“We only had to pick a few upgrades that we wanted — which made it really easy.”
