Cou­ple finds ideal Van­tage point

Evans Ridge devel­op­ment boasts open spa­ces and stylish stan­dard fea­tures

When Rob Leach and Can­dace Chol­lak de­cided they were ready to buy their first place to­gether, the cou­ple had sev­eral must-haves.

“There was def­i­nitely a list,” says Leach. Among the many things to con­sider, Leach and Chol­lak needed the right lo­ca­tion and a garage that could fit both of their ve­hi­cles.

The cou­ple found their match at a stylish town­home com­plex in north­west Cal­gary. Van­tage is a devel­op­ment by award-win­ning builder Cal­bridge Homes.

The project is one of three town­home projects by the builder. Oth­ers are The Trad­ing Post and The Ravines of Sun­set Ridge, both in Cochrane.

“We (wanted) to be close to where our fam­i­lies both live right now,” Leach says. “So south­east Cal­gary was out of the ques­tion.”

Van­tage is in Evan­sRidge, a com­mu­nity mas­ter­planned by vet­eran de­vel­oper Dream Devel­op­ment.

Evan­sRidge is also known for its close to ameni­ties, such as shops, ser­vices and restau­rants. It’s a short drive to Creek­side Shop­ping Cen­tre and Sy­mons Val­ley Ranch Farm­ers’ Mar­ket.

“We liked the fam­ily-

ented na­ture of the com­mu­nity and the open green spa­ces,” adds Leach.

Within the com­mu­nity, the project has an ideal perch.

“You’re right on the ridge there, which is nice,” Leach says. “We ended up with an end unit right on the green space along the side of the devel­op­ment so it works out re­ally nicely.”

Leach has an of­fice in down­town Cal­gary and says the com­mute to work is easy.

“It’s about five min­utes longer than it was when I lived in Edge­mont, so not too bad.”

Van­tage is planned to in­clude 96 homes on Evans Ridge Drive.

“The lines of the build­ings are crisp and mod­ern, and a de­par­ture from con­ven­tional town­house lines,” says Ralph Smith, Cal­bridge direc­tor of sales for north com­mu­ni­ties. “The spec­i­fi­ca­tions are ex­cel­lent, com­pet­i­tive in all re­spects, and of­fer­ing all the fea­tures that you could be look­ing for in town­home liv­ing. “Throw in on-the-doorstep bus con­nec­tions, prox­im­ity to up­com­ing schools, nearby shop­ping and ameni­ties, and a de­sir­able up­scale neigh­bour­hood, and you have the com­plete pack­age.”

The units have a pri­vate front pa­tio and a rear cov­ered deck, along with a twocar, front-at­tached garages.

“We looked at sev­eral dif­fer­ent town houses and we found that you’re ei­ther get­ting one of those re­ally long dou­ble garages where you’re park­ing one in front of the other or just a sin­gle­car garage. We liked the fact you got a (stan­dard) dou­ble,” Leach says. There are two mod­els at Van­tage, both dis­played at the sales cen­tre as show homes. Leach and Chol­lak bought the Gemini in a dou­ble-mas­ter bed­room ori­en­ta­tion. It’s also of­fered with three bed­rooms.

“The Gemini model caught our eye be­cause it was larger, and of­fered more space,” says Leach. “It also of­fered more win­dows al­low­ing for more nat­u­ral light into the space.”

The cou­ple felt the dou­ble-mas­ter bed­room plan suited their life­style bet­ter than the three-bed­room, Leach says.

“We also felt that down the road, it may help with re­sale,” he adds.

The Gemini is 1,462-square-feet and the Orion is 1,430-square-feet. Both come with two and a half bath­rooms.

In the Orion, the kitchen is cen­tral on the main floor and has a gal­ley de­sign. The kitchen in the Gemini is along the rear wall.

Both come with stain­less steel ap­pli­ances.

The laun­dry room is on the sec­ond floor and comes with a high-ef­fi­ciency front-load washer and dryer. Units at Van­tage have an op­tional den, which can be trans­formed into a fit­ness or yoga stu­dio.

“I think the se­lec­tions were the best,” says Leach. “Just the ba­sics were much bet­ter than what we looked at al­ready.

“We only had to pick a few up­grades that we wanted — which made it re­ally easy.”
