Adrian Gaska is no stranger to the upside of an inner-city community in southwest Calgary. He worked for a company that provided plastic moving boxes and in this role made a number of trips to Currie Barracks.

“I have been looking at the community for years,” Gaska says. “It’s a really good area.”

Currie Barracks’ first phase featured high-end single-family homes and recently it opened sales on four multi-family projects, including Axess at Currie Barracks by Slokker Canada West.

The other multi-family projects are by Avi Urban, Jayman Modus and Cove Properties.

Gaska is now set to move to a twobedroom condo apartment at Axess with his girlfriend, Ally Gordey.

The development offers studio apartments from the $240,000’s, one-bedroom apartments from the low $300,000’s and onebedroom plus den units from the $350,000’s. There are also two-bedroom units from the $350,000’s and townhomes from the $550,000’s.

Gaska says he saw this price range as an opportunity. “It opened the doors for other people to get in,” Gaska says.

The pricing at condo apartments and townhomes in Currie Barracks, he adds, lets buyers find their first home before turning to something bigger when they reach that stage in life.

“It’s a community where you can start off with something small and live there your entire life practically,” Gaska says. “There’s every step from starter to full estate-size beautiful home.”

Gaska says he likes that Currie Barracks offers its residents quick access to the city’s major roadways, making it easy to easy to travel anywhere in Calgary.

“For our future, no matter what you’re doing in the city, whether you’re working downtown or going to school, it’s right there,” Gaska says. “It’s good for both of us.”

In total, Axess will be comprised of 200 units released in two phases. This includes apartment-style condos across four buildings.

“When we were going through the buying process, there (wasn’t the need) for many options,” Gaska says. “It was all there.”

Standard features include a stain- less-steel appliance package and gas stove, wood-plank flooring, porcelain tile in the entryway, bathrooms and laundry room and large balconies and terraces.

The units range in size from 540-square-foot studios to townhomes that measure 1,278 square feet. The townhomes come in a three bedroom and 2 ½-bathroom orientation.

“Location, open-concept floor plans and great interior design, urban lifestyle and affordable pricing have drawn many people to our develop- ment,” says sales associate Tanya Miedema.

Construction at Axess is expected to start in spring 2015 with first possessions slated for fall 2016. A sales centre is located at 2953 Battleford Ave. S.W. It’s open 2 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
