There’s peace in Sendero Canyon

From spectacular scenery to the welcoming climate, there are many reasons to consider Penticton

Calgary Herald - Calgary Herald New Condos - - New Condos - Sendero Canyon is a master-planned community near Penticton that offers the peace and tranquillity of a forest with the amenities and cultural highlights of a city.

lot overlooking a beautiful untouched canyon in Penticton’s recently launched masterplanned community of Sendero Canyon. “I love Calgary and I love everything about Alberta, but there comes a point in time when you just want to slow down, sit back, relax and enjoy.”

Imagine waking up every morning to fresh, clean air, a view of a stunning forested canyon overlooking a lake and sunny skies, yet with all of the amenities and cultural activities of a big city. No traffic. No stress.

The only pressing decision to make each day is which winery to visit or which beach to hang out at.

“It almost seems too good to be true,” says Andrea, noting that she is very excited about not having to deal with Deerfoot and Glenmore Trails at rush hour.

The couple fell in love with the Okanagan four years ago when they took Kelly’s HarleyDavidson on a road trip tour of the wineries.

“That sealed it for us,” says Andrea, who loves wine (she even named her Bichon Shitzu Jackson after the Okanagan’s award-winning winery Jackson Triggs).

With Kelly, 54, planning to retire in June, the couple wanted to relocate to a smaller community that allowed them the space to relax and enjoy life full-time. They initially looked for a retirement home in Kelowna, but when Sendero Canyon launched in May, they jumped at the chance to build a new luxury home on the hillside in Penticton with beautiful views of the canyon.

A development partnership between Canadian Horizons Development Group and Sendero Canyon Homes Ltd., Sendero Canyon offers 231 freehold home sites of various sizes, ranging from 3,000 to 14,000 square feet staggered across 29 hectares (72 acres) of hillside land on the eastern edge of Penticton. The development unfolds over eight hectares (20 acres) of green space and backs onto the forests of the canyon, which are laced with walking trails and peppered with wildlife.

“We are building a variety of home styles,” says Trent Blackwell, developer and vicepresident of Sendero Canyon Homes Ltd. “It all depends on the grade and the lot size,” he says, noting that rarely will two homes be the same, but that all embrace old-world Craftsman exterior facades with state-ofthe-art modern interiors.

Depending on the lot location, buyers will have views of the canyon, Skaha Lake or Lake Okanagan.

Andrea and Kelly purchased a 10,000-square-foot lot and are building a 1,600-squarefoot bungalow with an owners’ suite on the main floor and three bedrooms on the lower level. Finishes are luxurious, from quartz countertops to engineered hardwood.

“What I love the most are the big windows,” says Andrea, who can’t wait to move in. The home will be completed in January. Andrea, who works for Superstore, will move first, starting a new position at the Superstore in Penticton with Kelly following in June, when he retires from his 32 years at CP Rail.

“We’ve worked hard and saved our money,” says Andrea, noting that the properties at Sendero Canyon are affordable, starting at $435,000 including home and lot.

Almost a quarter of the lots sold in just over two months. Blackwell says WestJet’s announcement that it will be commencing flights to Penticton in October has added to the demand for properties.

Penticton real estate agent John Green says that until recently Penticton has flown under the radar because it had a lack of housing options.

But all of that is changing, he says, and he believes this quaint town is about to be rediscovered on a grand scale.

“This is one of the best places to live in the country,” Green says. PROJECT: Sendero Canyon in Penticton, B.C.
