DESIGN DRIVEN BY CONNECTION
Lola duplex offers flex spaces for work, study needs, plus plenty of room geared to family gatherings
Whether it’s a school assignment or a project from the office that needs polishing off, having a place to work from home can be important.
The Lola is a model with multiple spaces that allow its residents to relax, socialize, and — when they need to — get down to business.
This functional three-bedroom, 1,576-square-foot duplex by Morrison Homes is displayed as a show home in the new southeast Calgary community of Pine Creek. It’s also available to be built in the northeast community of Cornerstone.
Earlier this year, Morrison was crowned single-family, large volume Builder of the Year, at the
BILD (Building Industry Land Development) Calgary Region Awards.
On the Lola’s main level, between the great room and dining area, is a generously sized space the floor plan dubs a flex room.
The show home presents this space as a supplementary sitting area with shelves. But it’s easy to imagine it with a large desk and used as an open-concept office. For children in the home, this would allow them to focus on homework or study for an exam and still be within earshot of their parents in the kitchen or the great room.
A similar idea lives upstairs. A few steps outside of the two secondary bedrooms is a tech station with an optional desk. This is another spot that supports the ability to work or study.
The primary focus for this home, however, is for people to connect. The rear-facing L-shaped kitchen has the dimensions and design for meal preparation to be a group effort.
With lots of space around the island and long stretches of counter along its walls, everyone in the family can lend a hand.
The backsplash boasts a stylish chevron pattern, and the appliances, including an over-the-range microwave, are stainless steel. These appliances are thoughtfully dispersed, with plenty of elbow room between the kitchen, oven and dishwasher.
The sink sits beneath a large rear-facing window, making it easier for the parents of the home to keep an eye on their children playing in the backyard.
As demonstrated in the show home, the dining area, which has two tall, thin windows, is an ideal place for an accent wall.
The front-facing great room is shown with an eye-catching optional electric fireplace.
This model also offers an optional side entrance, which provides direct access to a staircase that links to an optional developed basement. It has a fourth bedroom with a walk-in closet, bathroom, and rec area.
In this home walk-in closets are a common theme. Along with the master bedroom, the two aforementioned secondary bedrooms on the top level have them as well.
Both secondary sleeping spaces
— which are similar in size — also benefit from larger-than-average windows.
The master bedroom, which boxes out its exterior wall in a visually interesting way, is 11 feet and 10 feet two inches by 13 feet eight inches. It’s also highlighted by an ensuite with striking dark tile.
Pine Creek is one of the latest communities in Calgary by Anthem United. Its master plan includes three parks, a storm pond, and scenic wetland. People who enjoy golf will appreciate its proximity to a range of courses. Along with Sirocco Golf Club, just down the road, it’s less than 20 minutes from Heritage Pointe Golf Club, McKenzie Meadows Golf Club and Blue Devil Golf Club.
