Ban­dits, Saints stars share top hon­our

Jar­ret Gran­berg of the Brooks Ban­dits and Con­nor Har­dowa of the Spruce Grove Saints will share the most valu­able player award for the 2008-09 Al­berta Ju­nior Hockey League sea­son.

Har­dowa also was rec­og­nized as the top de­fence­man.

Among other ma­jor award win­ners an­nounced Thurs­day, Chad Carder of the Grande Prairie Storm recorded a league-lead­ing 2.02 goals-against av­er­age and .922 save per­cent­age en route to earn­ing the top goal­tender dis­tinc­tion.

Mean­while, Cor­ban Knight of the Oko­toks Oil­ers was se­lected AJHL rookie of the year. Knight led all rook­ies in scor­ing with 72 points in 61 games and com­pleted the reg­u­lar sea­son eighth over­all in the league scor­ing race.

Steve Hamil­ton of the Fort Saskatchewan Traders was coach of the year.
