Re: “Panel votes to end fluoride,” Jan. 27.

Based on council’s decision on fluoride, I guess we do live in a redneck town after all. When I moved here from Eastern Canada almost 10 years ago, I was a little leery about Alberta’s redneck, conservati­ve image and how it would affect me living here.

While there are definitely a few ultraright opinions out there, generally, I have been quite pleased that the common sense majority prevails on both municipal and provincial issues. But letting council remove fluoride from our water in some fear of being poisoned by “industrial waste” and in utter disregard for the mainstream medical and scientific advice of qualified experts is just too much. This embarrasse­s me as a Calgarian.
