UFC expects record T.O. crowd

A record crowd of more than 40,000 will fill Rogers Centre for the Toronto debut of Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The Rogers Centre will be configured to seat around 42,000 for the event April 30, nearly doubling the current North American attendance record set at UFC 124 in December in Montreal. It’s also expected to set a new record for live gate — the current standard of $5.397 million US was set in December 2006 at UFC 66 in Las Vegas.

The main event of UFC 129 features Montreal native and reigning welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre taking on Jake Shields. UFC Hall-of-Famer Randy Couture will square off against ex-light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.
