Calgarian fifth at junior worlds

Calgary’s Kevin Sandau finished fifth in the men’s 15 kilometre skate-ski race at the Under-23 world crosscount­ry skiing championsh­ips in Otepaa, Estonia, on Thursday.

The 22-year-old clocked in at 36:04.8.

“I am very happy with the way things went,” he said. “I was aiming for a top 10, so it went way better than expected.”

Calgary’s Jesse Cockney was 27th, while Graeme Killick of Banff finished 32nd.

In the women’s 10km race, Calgary’s Sara Hewitt was 28th.
