Man left homeless after fire destroys his truck

-

A man living in his truck has apparently lost everything after a fire in Bridgeland on Wednesday morning.

The man, believed to a tile setter, was in his truck when it caught fire around 11 a.m.

Though he escaped with only minor injuries, he told the fire department all his belongings were in the vehicle.

He is said to have lost a paycheque, his tools and his possessions.

“At the end, we didn’t find anything salvageable,” said fire department spokesman Brian McAsey. “It was obliterated by the fire.” The cause of the fire, at 4th Avenue and 5th Street N.E., is under investigation, but McAsey said the man told firefighters he was smoking in the vehicle at the time.

Photographer Sam Livermore saw the blaze and wants to help raise money for the man, who has not been identified.

“I could only imagine what I would feel in that situation,” said Livermore.

The vehicle was not insured.
