Membership has its perks
The Calgary Horticultural Society is a great resource for gardeners in Calgary.
The 102-year-old organization is one of the largest horticultural societies in North America with a membership of more than 5,000.
The Society publishes Calgary Gardening Magazine, a membersonly magazine, and one of several benefits to CHS membership.
Members also enjoy the Society’s two annual plant shares in the spring and fall. New members who don’t have plant material to share with other gardeners are welcome to attend, and buy plants for $2 each.
“The CHS website is a valuable resource to any Calgary gardener,” says executive director Elizabeth Jolicoeur. “There is great value in becoming a member of the Calgary Horticultural Society. Because the Society is a registered charity, everybody who joins is supporting gardening in Calgary and supporting a historical organization in the city.”
An individual membership is $37 per year.
Most garden centres in Calgary offer discounts to society members, as do many local garden landscapers and nurseries.
Membership for seniors is $21 per year. The family rate is $50 per year, a senior family is $29, and the student rate is $21 per year.
