Boy, 17, shot dead by 10-year-old with a shotgun in B.C. accident
CRANBROOK • A 17-year-old boy was shot dead last week when a loaded shotgun discharged in the hands of a 10-year-old.
The shooting took place Thursday in Cranbrook, B.C., about 390 kilometres southwest of Calgary.
RCMP have identified the 17-year-old as Michael Justin Voth. Authorities said the shooting was an accident. They said there are no provisions for a child under 12 to face criminal charges, nor can the child’s identity be released.
Police are still investigating why the firearm was unsecured, and said the owner may face charges.
The relationship, if any, between the 10-year-old boy and the victim was not revealed.
