Man jailed for fatal fight at house party

A city man has been handed a 51/2-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of another man at a southeast house party nearly two years ago.

Darcy Lee Hunt, 38, who had been scheduled to start a five-day jury trial on second-degree murder on Monday, pleaded guilty to the lesser-included charge in the death of Luc Beaudry, 44.

Hunt admitted he caused the fatal injuries to Beaudry on July 3, 2009, during an alcohol-and drug-induced fight at a home in the 7200 block of 20A St. S.E. Beaudry later died in hospital.

The two men began arguing in the kitchen of the home after an all-night party, then Hunt grabbed a kitchen knife.

Hunt was given double credit for two years in pre-trial custody, leaving him with 18 months still to serve behind bars.
