Local artist wins comic award


Calgary artist Fiona staples, 26, who’s made a name for herself in the comic book business drawing the likes of superman, Batman and Jonah Hex, as well as titles such as north 40 and Done to Death, was honoured on the weekend with a Joe shuster award for outstandin­g comic book cover artist. the Joe shuster awards — named after the Canadian co-creator of superman — recognizes the achievemen­ts of Canadians in the comic book industry. the ceremony was held at the BMO Centre on the stampede grounds as part of the Calgary Comic and entertainm­ent expo.
