Raffi’s visit to city for adults only — for TEDXYYC conference
Well-known children’s entertainer Raffi, a knighted performing arts director and the CEO of a local medical technologies firm will share their ideas at Calgary’s third annual TEDXYYC conference.
TEDXYYC, the Calgary version of the Technology, Entertainment and Design movement, takes place May 25 at the Telus Spark Centre.
Joining Raffi Cavoukian on the stage speaking about new ideas that can change the world will be Sir Nicholas Kenyon, director of London’s Barbican Centre, and Dr. Breanne Everett, president and CEO of Calgary-based Orpyx Medical Technologies.
The TED movement’s motto is Ideas Worth Sharing. It started in 1984 as a conference to bring together people from technology, entertainment and design.
“We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world,” the TED website says. “So we’re building here a clearing house that offers free knowledge and inspira- tion from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.”
Calgary event chairman Alex Middleton said the recorded talks from the local 2010 and 2011 conferences have been viewed more than 500,000 times by people around the world.
There are only 200 seats available for this year’s Calgary event. Applications for tickets start March 1 online at TEDXYYC.COM.
