BACKS, Vida M.

C434249 Mrs. Vida M. Backs passed away on March 4, 2012 at the age of 84 years. Vida grew up in Calgary and met her husband-to-be, Walter when he was on leave from the Royal Canadian Air Force on his way to war. It was love at first sight and after the war, they married. They farmed in the Bottrel area for ten years, then ranched at the Ghost River Ranch. Later they moved near Canmore and then Dalemead. They moved to California for eight years and finally returned back to Calgary in 1988. Vida was predeceased by her devoted husband Walter, the love of her life. She was also predeceased by her brothers Bob and Ozzie Overland, her sisters-in-iaw Vicky, Shirley, and Florence Overland as well as her brothers-in-law John Olmstead, Tom Miller and Lloyd Ryan. Vida is survived by her loving daughters Judy Mayfield, Lynn Pyne, Laurie Wordie, her chosen daughter Mary Lehman and her much loved son-in-law, Glen Wordie. Also surviving are her grandchildren Alishya Mayfield, Bliss Pyne, Erin Wordie and Jason Wordie. Vida is also survived by her brothers Laurie and Jack Overland, her sisters Ella Miller and Marjorie Ryan, and sister-in-law Anne Overland. We all remember her as a kind, loving and thoughtful woman. The family offers a special thanks to the amazing staff of Mount Royal Care Center, her final home. We also thank Jerry Wordie, to whom any gratitude we express would never be enough, for the devoted care to our Mother for three years in his own home.
