Re: “Tory MP wants to uncork provincial wine curbs,” April 4.
Of course, not everyone would agree with MP Dan Albas’s private member’s bill. Just my opinion, but it seems like Rowland Dunning, executive director of the Canadian Association of Liquor Jurisdictions, must protect his job.
I just do not buy the potential international trade implications argument. Nor do I see where this would cost provincial governments serious money. As Albas mentioned, these are wineries whose production is too small to be able to sell to a liquor distribution board.
It would seem to me that provincial governments, via their respective liquor boards, have already decided they do not want or need the money these wineries would generate for them. Most irksome of Dunning’s comments is the threat of higher taxes that could result if the status quo is not maintained.
