Dump penny now

Re: “Getting rid of the penny is change for the better,” Letter, April 4.

Maureen Mcginn is not correct. In Australia, one or two cents over is rounded down and three or four cents over is rounded up. No one is advantaged. Also, when the penny was discontinued 20 or 30 years ago, a date was chosen after which the penny was no longer legal tender. Hoarders could still take their pennies to a bank to exchange them for cash. Phasing out the penny is a nonsense. It should be immediate.
