Man injured after falling into baler

-

OKOTOKS • A man was injured in a farming accident outside of Okotoks on Thursday morning.

Police and STARS were called to a farm eight kilometres northwest of the town after the man fell and was caught in farming machinery.

“The individual had sustained serious injuries after being trapped in a bale processor at a farm location,” said STARS spokesman Cam Heke.

The 53-year-old man was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary with potentially lifethreatening condition.

RCMP Const. Teanna Jeffrey said the man was “at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

“We suspect that he simply fell and the baler came down and crushed him,” Jeffrey said. “It’s just simply an accident.” The person operating the machinery noticed he was trapped, stopped and it was lifted off him.

Jeffrey said the injuries were serious, but “he should be OK.”
