Cobain ‘Melvan’ fails to meet reserve on ebay

-

AUTO HISTORY • A van that features illustrations of the rock group Kiss by Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain failed to reach the minimum reserve on ebay after bidding hit $99,999.

The “Melvan,” a 1972 Dodge Sportsman Royal, once belonged to U.S. band the Melvins, one of Cobain’s early influences.

According to the item description, “The Kiss Mural on the side was hand drawn by Kurt Cobain using sharpie markers shoplifted from the Thriftway grocery store in Montesano, Wash.”

A second illustration of Michael Jackson on the hood has since fallen victim to weather.

The current owner is Montesano musician Ben Berg, who says the van has been driven once around the block before being parked for 14 years.

Among questions submitted by potential buyers:

“Does this van possess magical powers? For instance, will it make my crappy band not suck, land us a major record contract and allow us to be the first band to play on the surface of the sun?”
